woman's health
Health Reformer by Ellen John

Women's Health, part one

Excerpt: "There are two types of menstrual pain. Primary dysmenorrhea, caused by the muscular contractions of the uretus, is experienced as menstrual cramps during the first two or three days of menstruation. It is common in teenage girls and young women.

"Secondary dysmennorrhea occurs when periods suddenly become painful. This is usually due to an underlying condition such as fibroids or endometriosis..."

Human Body Systems

Excerpt: "When God created the human body, a center in the brain was charged with the responsibility of directing the removal of waste products. (This center includes portions of the medulla, pons, hypothalamus, hypophysis, pituitary stalk, fourth ventricle, and cerebrum.) When we speak of elimination, most people immediately think of the bowels, but this is only one channel of elimination. Normal elimination through the sinuses, lungs, skin, and kidneys is equally important..."

Women's Health, part two

Excerpt: "Causes of less milk production [breast milk] are: Deficiencies in the mother’s diet, Nutritional deficiency, Stress, Lack of sleep, Certain hormonal changes, Consumption of birth control pills, Dehydration (lack of water)."

Vitiligo, Leocoderma

Excerpt: "How it is treated? Tinea versicolor responds to either topical or oral forms of treatment. Topical antifungal creams, ointments, or shampoos — containing selenium sulfide, keteconazole, zinc-pyrithrone, imidazole, or other medications—applied directly to affected areas once or twice daily have proven effective."

Thyroid Disease

Excerpt: "The thyroid gland affects every cell in the body because thyroid hormone affects the metabolism of all body tissues. An overactive thyroid, a condition known as hyperthyroidism, is manifested by an increase in body temperature and pulse, occasional bouts of diarrhea, fatigue, a large appetite in the presence of a loss of weight, and often a mental state resembling mania. Under-function of the gland, called hypothyroidism, affects about ten percent of women sometime in their lives, most commonly after the age of 50. Signs include any of the following: mental sluggishness, poor memory, weakness, coarse and dry skin and hair, brittle nails, thinning of the hair, intolerance of cold, puffiness of the face and extremities from fluid retention, and decreased sweating..."

Excerpt: "Lack of willpower is the number one cause of diseases in the world. Science is finally catching up to this fact. One of the world's most esteemed and influential psychologists, Roy F. Baumeister, has written the book: “Willpower: Rediscovering the Greatest Human Strength,” in which he reveals the secrets of self-control and how to master it. His many videos on this topic are available online.

Summary: "Willpower matters A LOT. In fact, it’s the #1 greatest predictor of happiness, health, wealth, and general well-being. That’s true. Nothing predicts your future success and wellbeing better than your willpower. Best of all, there are some simple and proven ways to grow your willpower strength and become more self-disciplined..."

Excerpt: "Water is also needed to carry toxic waste away from the cells. In fact, there are at least 50 reasons why the body needs sufficient water on a regular basis. Without sufficient water to constantly wet all parts, your body’s drought-management system kicks into action. The histamine-directed chemical messenger systems are activated to arrange a new, lower quota of water for the drought-stricken areas. When histamine and its subordinate “drought managers” come across pain-sensing nerves, they cause pain. This is what I discovered in my research."

Excerpt: "In 1901 she [Ellen White]wrote a most interesting statement on “Manufacture of Health Foods,” warning of potential “trouble as high as mountains” in this area, yet praising the work of Dr. John Harvey 8 Health Reformer Kellogg. She continued: “The Lord will teach his servants how to make food preparations that are more simple and less expensive. In all our plans we should remember that the health food work is the property of God and is not to be made a financial speculation for personal gain. It is God’s gift to his people and the profits are to be used for the good of suffering humanity everywhere..."

Clean And Unclean Meat Disease

Excerpt: "Many beef producers add growth hormones to cattle feed. Those hormones are passed along directly to the consumer’s body. some have even mingled manure and unusable carcase portions of cattle back into the feed to reduce costs and increase profits. These acts against nature make unclean animals from clean. Imagine a cow eating its kind. Such detestable practices are generally considered to be the cause of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy, or BSE (mad cow’s disease). There is strong evidence that the outbreak was because of feeding ground cow meatand bone meal to young calves."

Excerpt: "Grains, fruits, nuts, and vegetables constitute the diet chosen for us by our Creator. These foods, prepared in as simple and natural a manner as possible, are the most healthful and nourishing. They impart a strength, a power of endurance, and a vigor of intellect that are not afforded by a more complex and stimulating diet (The Ministry of Healing, p. 296.1).

All the elements of nutrition are contained in the fruits, vegetables, and grains (Healthful Living, p. 78.4)."

Depression Recovery

Excerpt: "In a variety of scientific studies, increasing EQ has been shown to prevent or treat depression, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, anorexia, bulimia, and addictions such as alcoholism. The 12-step program used by Alcoholics Anonymous, for example, has led to remarkable success, but it is four times more successful if ombined with a program to enhance emotional intelligence. What about persons who don’t necessarily have an addiction or specific disease? Enhancing EQ has been shown to help these individuals think more clearly and communicate more effectively. It fosters unity in group settings, reduces polarizing statements, and promotes a happier life."

Excerpt: " If the first battle of cancer is against surprise, the other is against denial. Cancer is a disease that challenges the fundamentals of one's existence: How one looks, feels, lives, works and loves. Patients sometimes experience paralysing fear of invasive treatment, disfigurement, economic damage and death. Over 50 per cent patients of Dr Hemant Malhotra, head of medical oncology at Jaipur's Sawai Man Singh Medical College and Hospital, do not approach him on time due to an illplaced belief that a cancer patient will die and treatment is useless. "It's as if the word 'cancer' means death," he says. "This pessimism exists even among health workers and makes patients and their families refuse specialised treatment."

Excerpt: "The prevalence of birth defects in India is 6-7% which translates to around 1.7 million birth defects annually, out of 27 million births per year in India. This estimate reflects the highest global burden of birth defects.

"In the world there are 3,072,000 infant deaths per year due to birth defects. The top three regions with infant deaths due to birth defects per year are:

Southeast Asia -1,096,000
Africa -1,064,000
"Eastern Mediterranean-444,000 Of these, Southeast Asia and Africa share 59% of the global burden. Of these, 76% of all new born deaths due to new born deformities is contributed by India."

Activated Charcoal

Excerpt: "One of the most beneficial remedies is pulverized charcoal, placed in a bag and used in fomentations. This is a most successful remedy. I have ordered this in cases where the sick were suffering great pain, and when it has been confided to me by the physician that he thought it was the last before the close of life. Then I suggested the charcoal, and the patient slept, the turning point came, and recovery was the result. To students when injured with bruised hands and suffering with inflammation, I have prescribed this simple remedy, with perfect success. The poison of inflammation was overcome, the pain removed, and healing went on rapidly. The most severe inflammation of the eyes will be relieved by a poultice of charcoal, put in a bag, and dipped in hot or cold water, as will best suit the case. This works like a charm. I expect you will laugh at this; but if I could give this remedy some outlandish name that no one knew but myself, it would have greater influence. But the simplest remedies may assist nature, and leave no baleful effects after their use.”

Nature Cure by healthlibrary.com (booklets)

Excerpt: "Since psoriasis is a metabolic disease, a cleansing juice fast for about seven days is always desirable in the beginning of the treatment. Carrots, beets, cucumbers and grapes may be used for juices. Juices of citrus fruits should be avoided. The warm water enema should be used daily to cleanse the bowels during the fast. After the juice fast, the patient should adopt the diet of three basic food groups, namely (i) seeds, nuts and grains, (ii) vegetables and (iii) fruits, with emphasis on raw seeds and nuts, especially seasame seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and plenty of organically grown raw vegetables and fruits."

Hair Loss

Excerpt: "Lack of inositol causes loss of hair. Any person having trouble with his or her hair should eat foods rich in inositol such as yeast, liver and molasses. Research has, however, shown that women have a low requirement of inositol. Although this vitamin may help to stimulate the growth of a woman’s hair, its lack is probably not a major cause of slow growth. Women are generally deficient in iodine and vitamin B1, either of which can slow down circulation to the scalp to such an extent that hair may fall out and new hair grow in very slowly."

Excerpt: "The real cause of pneumonia, however, is the toxic condition of the body, especially of the lungs and air passages, resulting from wrong feeding and faulty life style. Persons with healthy tissues and strong vital force are unlikely to catch pneumonia. It is only when the system is clogged with the toxic matter and the vitality is low that the germs of pneumonia invade a person."

Excerpt: "In the acute stage of the disease, when fever is present, the patient should abstain from all solid foods and only drink fresh fruit and vegetable juices diluted with water on a 50: 50 basis. After fever subsides, he may adopt a low-calorie raw fruit and vegetable diet with plenty of raw juices. After the acute symptoms are over, the patient may gradually embark upon a well-balanced diet of three basic food groups, namely seeds, nuts and grains ; vegetables and fruits. In persistent chronic conditions, repeated short juice fasts may be undertaken for a week or so at intervals of two months."

Excerpt: "Malaria is caused by a tiny parasite called plasmodium. The parasites grow in the liver of a person for a few days and then enter the bloodstream where they invade the red blood cells. The disease is spread from a sick person to a healthy one by the female anopheles mosquito. She draws a small quantity of blood containing the parasites, when she bites a person who has malaria. These parasites then pass through several stages of development within the mosquito’s body and finally find their way to its salivary glands. There they lie in wait for an opportunity to enter the bloodstream of the next person. The real cause of malaria, however, as in case of other infectious diseases, is wrong feeding habits and faulty style of living, resulting in the system being clogged with accumulated systemic refuse and morbid matter."

Excerpt: "Diabetes has been described by most biological doctors as a "prosperity" disease, primarily caused by systematic overeating and consequent obesity. Not only the overeating of sugar and refined carbohydrate but also of proteins and fats, which are transformed into sugar if taken in excess, is harmful and may result in diabetes. Too much food taxes the pancreas and eventually paralyses its normal activity. It has been estimated that the incidence of diabetes is four times higher in persons of moderate obesity and 30 times higher in persons of severe obesity."

Fasting -- The Master Remedy

Excerpt: "Fasting is highly beneficial in practically all kinds of stomach and intestinal disorders and in serious conditions of the kidneys and liver. It is a miracle cure for eczema and other skin diseases and offers the only hope of permanent cure in many cases. The various nervous disorders also respond favorably to this mode of treatment."
